Every year, the government-owned company sponsors dozens of events across the province. To develop creative sponsorship ideas, Loto-Qu\u00e9bec has, for the past eight years, turned to the Montreal-based marcomm agency Bleublancrouge, whose job it is to dream up original concepts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In summer 2015, the agency created \u201cRendez-Vous Loto-Qu\u00e9bec,\u201d interactive gatherings in public spaces in Montreal such as the Old Port, Lafontaine Park, and Mount-Royal Park, places frequented by thousands of visitors. These events revolve around three themes in connection with festivals: fireworks, music, and legends. For fireworks, the installation titled \u201c\u00c9tincelle\u201d (\u201cSpark\u201d) allowed the public to set off virtual fireworks as part of a luminous installation. For music, four stationary bikes generated a musical work, thereby forming a \u201cwheel quartet.\u201d \u201cIn addition to getting people to enjoy themselves, we wanted these events to be created in partnership with local artists,\u201d specifies Jonathan Rouxel, Vice-President and Creative Director at Bleublancrouge.<\/span><\/p>\n<a name='numavideo'><\/a><div class='numa-video-wrapper with-cover'><div class='video-cover-overlay'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/numa.media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Jonathan-Belisle.png?w=1152\" \/><i id='overlay-play' class='overlay-play'><\/i><\/div><iframe id='numavideo' allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' src='http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/219511591?api=1&amp;title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=fa1164&amp;mw=1004&amp;mh=564' frameborder='0'><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While searching for an artist who had already worked on legends, the agency quickly came upon \u201cWuxia the Fox,\u201d an augmented tale created by the interactive poet Jonathan B\u00e9lisle and a company called Saga. \u201cWe knew we\u2019d found very strong material,\u201d relates Jonathan Rouxel. \u201cIt was easy to take this idea and apply it to the Loto-Qu\u00e9bec context.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that is how \u201cNaissance du monde\u201d came to be, a legend inspired by Native folktales, a mix of Iroquois and Algonquin founding narratives, which tells the story of a rabbit that falls into a stormy sea. A giant turtle brings him back to the surface and becomes the landmass on which we walk today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNaissance du monde\u201d is a work designed by Jonathan B\u00e9lisle to deliver a tangible experience. At the centre of the digital installation is a magic tome that the public must read out loud to activate onscreen animation. Jonathan B\u00e9lisle wanted to showcase natural interfaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI\u2019m opposed to digital technology,\u201d he says by way of explanation. \u201cI\u2019m interested in nostalgia, in what has disappeared but is still meaningful.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And, he readily admits, it was the technology that gave him the most trouble on this project. Contrary to the technology used on \u201cWuxia,\u201d the vocal recognition technology on this project was not connected to the web. In his opinion, \u201cInformation technology can be used to humanize, not just to optimize.\u201d For Jonathan Rouxel, it was important that the project managed to bring together families and also strangers. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTechnology often isolates us from one another.
